I too loved this book. It's long, plenty to get your teeth into, and the protagonists are attractive and real. The 'I love him but I daren't tell him 'cos he'll hate me for it' theme that runs right through the book didn't bother me, I found it both believable and useful, driving me onwards to see what happens.

There were two very minor points I didn't like - the cover and title I think don't do it justice, although both are revealed to be appropriate once you've read the book, they need to attract readers who haven't, and I think the title sounds corny and the cover picture looks wimpy.

The other point that grated a little is use of language. Set in Cornwall, Hardy hasn't fallen into the trap of trying to write Cornish dialect, although he allows himself a few snippets here and there. But 'eedjit' for idiot puts me firmly in Ireland, I'm afraid. And within the first twenty pages of the books there are a good half dozen uses of 'out' in context as 'he walked out the room' and I know some regional speech patterns drop the 'of' that I would have liked to see following the 'out', but this is narrative and I am surprised an editor didn't pick that up.

Like Hayden, I spotted blemishes and then ignored them and went on to enjoy the book immensely. It's beautifully written, evocative of the wild and primitive landscape of Cornwall, and I will be remembering it for a long time. Once I've forgotten it I'll be reading it again.

Leslie--that`s wild. I have searched for those three by name and author and get this message:

Your search "Lover's Knot by Donald Hardy" did not match any products in: Kindle Store › Kindle Books

And it doesn`t matter where I put the apostrophe, which is mislocated for the paperback listing. Weird.

Actually, I have purchased False Colors and Transgressions in Kindle versions back in April. When I searched Amazon for Tangled Web and Lover's Knot, TW showed up this morning and I bought it. I am sure that Lover's Knot will appear any day now -- I just need to be patient....not my strong suit. LOL.

I got my copy of this book today in the post after buying it on the strength of Alex Beecroft's review and while I haven't had time to do more than flick through it, I'm so excited to start reading! Even from the flick through, I got an incredible sense of how the land itself is a character and I think the comparison with Thomas Hardy is very apt in this and other regards.

Thanks for the review, this is I think the third review of this book I've read and I already know it's a keeper before I settle down with it properly tonight. Can't wait!
