Gaycrow (and all): You may want to check out my "Hot off the Presses" (Lethe Press, 2010). It's available as an ebook on several platforms as well as in paper. Because of the time period (1995-96) it doesn't qualify for Speak Its Name. Nonetheless, it's a gay romance set around an historical event, the Centennial Olympic Games here in Atlanta.

Lovely review - the book sounds interesting but one of my problems with Homer himself is the 'distance', as you say, between the reader and the characters. One of Renault's gifts is that she brings the characters closer to us.

Thanks for sharing!!!

Ack. I was musing the other day about wanting romances from some different eras, but I don't think I'll bother with that one, especially considering how much research I've been putting into a fictional family history that stretches back before that book's period and forward to the 1970s.

An astonishing read in every way. I celebrate the courage it took to write this novel while I (still) mourn for the characters. Hell of an accomplishment. And Alex Beecroft's cover is absolutely perfect.

Truly, I'm at a loss to express how impressed I am.

I spent ages finding a James Barr book of short stories he did called Derricks. They are in my opinion better in a way because they are less classist focused which is a problem with much of the early Gay Lit including some of the books you love.

They reek of classist ideals concerning how Gay Me should act towards the unwashed which stems frankly from class related institutionalized homophobia so there is reasons for it but it still turns me off as a wrong headed as the ever present need to tell the reader about classic Greek history etc etc.

I've just read it and I'm still tearful. This is a tragedy in every sense of the word. Beautifully written, a vivid portrayal of a forbidden love, guilt and anguish. Fabulous. But so terribly sad.

I bought this after reading "Captain Harding's Six Day War", which won your 2011 Best Book of the Year Award.

I really enjoyed "It Takes Two". The style of writing reminded me of Lucius Parhelion, whose books I love with a passion.

I'll definitely be looking for more stories by Elliott.

I've been to Amazon and looked back over my orders and this is the link to the Kindle format (in the UK) http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004QZ9RVS/ref=docs-os-doi_0

For some reason, the Kindle version isn't shown as an alternate version on the book's page. It wasn't easy to find on a search, but putting in both the title and the author's name did find it.

I don't know why Amazon have made the electronic version so difficult to find on their site!
